how much do the walking tours cost?
The cost for the History & Architecture Walk, Victorian Characters Walk, or Empress Hotel Guest Tour is $25 per adult, $20 for seniors or students, and $60 for families with school-aged children.
The cost for the Historic Pub Walk is $39 per person and includes a 6 oz local craft beer sampler at the first 3 pub stops.
The cost for private tours depends on the group size and anticipated tour duration, but will be in the range of $95 to $250. Very large groups may require multiple guides and additional fees.
how long are the walks?
The History & Architecture and Victorian Character Walks run about 2 hours and cover a distance of about 2 kilometres. The terrain is flat, but do wear comfy shoes.
The Empress Hotel Guest Tour duration is 1.5 hours, and the Historic Pub Walk will probably run about 3 hours.
The length of a private tour is whatever you are up for, but typically will run between 1.5 and 3 hours.
where do the walks start and end?
The History & Architecture Walk, Victorian Characters Walk, and Historic Pub Walk all begin at the Visitor Centre, 812 Wharf Street at Government Street (see photo this page). The tours will generally end at the Inner Harbour.
The Empress Hotel Guest Tour begins at the hotel’s Concierge Desk.
Private tours can begin and end wherever suits you best.
do i have to reserve in advance?
No, but it is a good idea. Walk-ups are fine, but tours may be cancelled the day before if no reservations have been made in advance.

do i have to pay in advance?
Not at all. We accept payment at tour time via cash, in either Canadian or US funds, or credit card using the Square system.
how do I know what the upcoming tour schedule is?
Easy. Just check the Schedule page. No tour to match the date(s) of your visit? Feel free to request one in advance. It may be possible to add a tour to suit. Private tours are always an option to consider as well.
