Saturday, September 27, 10:00 AM, James Bay Heritage Walking Tour, by Eric Wheeler.
Join us for a special architectural walking tour of James Bay, Victoria's oldest residential neighborhood. We'll have a look at some of the best examples of late 19th and early 20th century high-style and vernacular architecture. The tour begins and ends in front of the historic James Bay Inn, 270 Government Street at Toronto Street. This 2 hour loop tour covers about 12 blocks on mostly level urban terrain. There is no fee for this tour. However, donations to the Victoria Heritage Foundation are welcome.
Sunday, September 28, 10:00 AM, Rockland Neighbourhood Walking Tour, by Eric Wheeler.
Join us for a special architectural walking tour of Victoria's most prestigious neighborhood, featuring the finest work of the leading architects and builders of the historic period in Victoria. Of particular interest are several excellent examples of the English Arts and Crafts Style as interpreted on the west coast of Canada. This two hour loop tour covers about 12 blocks and begins and ends at the entrance to the parking lot of Craigdarroch Castle. Meet us at the starting point at 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 28. There is no charge for this narrated walking tour. However, donations to the Rockland Neighborhood Association are welcome.
Eric Wheeler is an architectural historian currently residing in Astoria, Oregon. Eric has over 25 years of experience in the US Midwest and Pacific Northwest as an independent historian and walking tour guide. He enjoys exploring new architectural landscapes and is delighted to have a chance to experience and interpret the residential neighborhoods of Victoria, BC.
